Windmill
Windmill Condition in an Axial Compressor
Aircraft engines can experience flameout due to causes such as insufficient fuel supply, stall, or foreign object ingestion such as volcanic ash. This can result in the loss of turbine power and the engine coming to a stop. In this situation, the engine enters a state known as windmilling.

The windmilling team conducts component tests by incorporating a single-stage compressor rotor and stator blade row into a rotating blade row wind tunnel to understand the flow rate versus loss characteristics of the windmilling compressor and the front stage stator blade row.
The purpose of these tests is to acquire the necessary foundational data for engine design.
